Do you always recommend the books you have to sell...when you recommend that people read books ?
What about Young Christians (Christians Young in the Faith or New to Christianity)
What do you recommend that Young Christians do in the meantime ?
What about those coming out of the Occult ?
What is your progress on the Orthodox part of the Website ?
We will be posting this to the site or emailing it to most people with whom we interact with.
This webpage applies to all who:
1. Are new Christians
2. Are young Christians
3. Are persons attempting to exit cults
4. Are persons who are leaving/have left any branch of the occult
We are forced to deal with our limitations. We are working on a section for young believers and new Christians. We know that there is a need for this. But the truth of our reality is that we are almost always understaffed. The reasons is that many of our volunteers are still in the early part of being trained to help, and it may be awhile before they can have an impact on the volume of people that we deal with. Thousands upon thousands of people visit our site every week, from all corners of the Globe.
We just do not have the means to answer all of the emails personally, even though we read all of them, and we do pray for the senders. Some of you receive generic answers back, others receive personal responses back. Almost all of you are probably going to start receiving what we call
"Homework Feedback"
This is where in response to your question, we ask you to go out and read a book on a topic.
Some people want us to write an email back to them the size of a book - That is not going to happen. Other emails NEED a book written back to the senders, because of the complexity of the issues that they write to us about. Some people write to us with emails that are 5 to 10 pages long.
The problem is: We enjoy reading them. AND we appreciate the effort that people went to, to write them.
But we can only do so much. In practical terms, this means that we cannot always answer your questions or comments on the depth that we would like. Our site continues to grow (because of more articles), and more and more people keep coming to our site (for which we are grateful and thankful and this is what we Want & pray Will happen).
Many of these questions are being asked by people who Can find the answers for themselves,..KIND OF.. What that means is that they Could find the answers for themselves, IF they knew where to look or which books were good or accurate books.
We will try to reply to you - as individuals - based on the level of commitment you have:
1. To yourself or
2. To the issue that you are trying to resolve
(If you are a scholar, this does NOT apply to you. There is no way that we can debate with Scholars [even though we like to do this on a constructive basis] about details...when we have issues by other people that involves their daily lives and their pragmatic choices). As we get more time to write new Articles, or new volunteers who are trained, or more funds so that we can do more research faster [or simply more research], we will be turning to more scholarly issues).
We are thankful for the progress we have made with the site and with the responses, but we know that we still have a lot to do.
Now, back to the explanations about how we respond to emails:
If either you read the material that we recommend, or if you demonstrate that you already have the knowledge, then we will go further with you. But we will not be spending much time writing in great detail to those who demonstrate that they 1.refuse to do their own research or 2. Are actually intellectually lazy. Yes, we know, some of this stuff takes real effort. So make the effort.
We are not asking you to do anything that we are not willing to do.
Do you always recommend the books you have to sell...when you recommend that people read books ?
No, in personal emails, we recommend other books as well. But obviously, we are offering the books we do, because others would Not offer those books to the public. Many Christian bookstores offer books these days that are a Departure from 1.Historic Christianity and 2. Early Christianity. The Christian bookstores of today sell material, a lot of which is New and Inaccurate. For that reason, we do not usually recommend that people go to Christian bookstores.
We also recommend our books because they help us to pay our costs of operations. It is not that we are selling books to make money. It is that we are selling books to help people find Truth and find the personal answers that they are looking for.
We sell the books that we have the greatest demand for. Depending on what people are trying to learn or find out, we have hundreds of books that we Could offer, but this depends on what people buy. But the point is that the books help us recover our costs. If we were trying to make money, most of us here would never be either at this site or involved with this ministry. IF this ministry continues to operate for another 10 years, that would be about how much time it would take to recover the costs of what it took for us to be up & running. Just look at the scope of both the books we offer and the scope of the doctrines, ideologies, intellectual streams, denominations, and history that we are trying to deal with.
Our goal is to place into the hands of those we interact with, the materials that will be most helpful to them. If that is a book that we do not sell, we still will recommend it. If that IS a book that we do sell, then we recommend That as well.
What about Young Christians (Christians Young in the Faith or New to Christianity) ?
We are working on articles for them. We want to have a lot, but we don’t right now. In the next few weeks, we expect to post a lot more. Those "newbies" (& others) who have questions or comments SHOULD still write to us. Only understand that it can easily take 1 to 4 days before we can get back to you. We are not ignoring you. Its just that there are only so many of us that can answer email. So long as you understand that, then "email away".
IF you think that your issue is the same issue as what others out there are thinking about, Please request that we post or write an article on a particular topic, and we will try and do that...as we have the time.
What do you recommend that Young Christians do in the meantime ?
Select a few Bible Passages and read them everyday:
From the Old Testament:
Psalm 23
Psalm 91
Psalm 119 (a few sections at a time)
The Book of Proverbs
From the New Testament:
The Gospel of John
1 John (which is the Epistle of John at the Back of the Bible)
Ephesians
Are there authors that a person interested in Christianity can read, and find a good representation of the Christian Experience ?
1. Books by Andrew Murray
2. Books by A.W. Tozer
3. Books by Watchman Nee
4. Books by John Owen
5. Books by John Bunyan (Pilgrim’s Progress)
6. Books by C.S. Lewis (the Great Divorce / Mere Christianity)
7. How to Study the Bible by R.A. Torrey
8. 1917 Scofield Study Bible [From Amazon] (now called the Old Scofield Bible)
9. the Cost of Commitment by John White
Also see our section on books for New Christians (Click here)
Are those the only authors you can recommend about Christianity ?
No, not at all. There are dozens of other authors. We are just trying to give people who know nothing about Christianity, a place to start. (If you need help to know where to obtain these books, then email us about that, and we will help point you in the right direction).
What about those coming out of the Occult ?
Many of these are young Christians. Some of their issues are a bit different than others, because they already have concepts about Christianity, that require a much more Accurate definition, than what they were previously exposed to. But that takes time.
Any Books that Occultists should be reading if they want to learn more about Other Occultists who have ALSO renounced the Occult, and are trying to understand Christianity ?
Child of Satan, Child of God by Susan Atkins
The Beautiful Side of Evil by Joanna Michaelson
Books on Demonology/Satanism by Merrill Unger
The Adversary by Marc Bubeck
What is your progress on the Orthodox part of the Website ?
We continue to post more material and more articles. This goes a bit slower than we would like, since we are dealing with other topics. We continue to add material on Human Rights and the Orthodox, first of all because many Orthodox are suffering around the world, and their Eastern Orthodox friends in the USA are Fat, Happy and LAZY.
They do not write letters of protest, they do not help other orthodox, etc etc. (Please prove us wrong).
The other part of this is however - is that the EOC CLAIMS to be the ONLY Church, the Right Church that all of us should belong to. We can’t help but notice that - at the same time that the EOC is saying this trying to find new members, that those who are already Orthodox are being persecuted around the world while EOC (Eastern Orthodox Church) denominations [sorry - "autocephalous churches" such as OCA, ROC, and ROCA are doing almost NOTHING, except getting richer - to help their brethren around the world.
And in several cases, we are finding that the EOC (as ROC) is actually encouraging local political officials to persecute Other Christians, not speaking about JWs or Hare Krishnas [at the moment], but those who are Protestant Christian, who have a history which is long, legitimate and honorable.
All over the world, Protestant Christians are the ones who have fought for the rights of all groups to express themselves, because Protestants believe in the Free Exchange of Ideas and also that the Church has nothing to fear from those who ask questions.
But when people see that the Eastern Orthodox Church is persecuting other Churches, by encouraging local officials in beating another priest or pastor up, arbitrary confiscation of property, arresting people for going to church, and refusing to grant permits for people to be able to meet, - this tends to show that while the Orthodox Church claims to be close to God, it is using the methods of LACK of LOVE that the Apostles and Disciples of Christ were subjected to.
(Just take a look at some of the News Stories we posted in the Orthodox Section. Those things are really happening, and very recently 2003-2004. We are not talking about events of 20 years ago).
That kind of conduct toward other Christians tends to call into question just who is the Jesus Christ that the Eastern Orthodox Church is following. Even Institutional Churches - such as the EOC - if they are going to say that they ARE Christian - need to ACT in Christian manner.
Encouraging the ABSENCE of Free Speech and Violations of Human Rights are NOT Christian Values and we encourage those in the EOC to convey this to their priests.
--------
We encourage all to keep us in your prayers, and to help & support wherever the Lord would have you help and serve him.
In Christ,
XOFC
